One often hears about the peculiar nature of
numbers either in good fortune or a challenge of some sort. Being open
minded, I would like to explore the impact of the number 7 to LIXI. An
organisation that, besides offering great benefits to its members, has
strong community sense and relationships at its core.
LIXI has been around for 7 years and is at it most
fundamental level fuelled by volunteer effort and expertise from
members. So what effect does 7 years of contribution have on a person?
Fatigue comes to mind and it has been evident in some instances of LIXI
Working Groups.
So how does one combat fatigue? Rest or a change is
often cited as a good remedy but that can be disastrous to an entity
with limited resources such as LIXI. Injecting ‘new blood’ is another
way to revitalise and restore enthusiasm and this is exactly what we
plan to do with our expansion into the New Zealand market. Fresh ideas
and enthusiastic participation will help LIXI achieve its goals as the
similarity of the two markets will ensure the ready transfer of
knowledge and a boosting of resources dedicated to the same
achievements.
The Board of LIXI is also evaluating improved
methodologies that will shorten delivery times and improve the quality
of Working Group output through NICTA developed process models. The
provision of prototypes will help with rapid deployment by members and
also aid the introduction of certification, a much desired and
noticeably absent facility in LIXI’s toolbox.
Will that be enough? We think not, so we are also
focusing on strategy, education and networking. We are starting small
this year by introducing the LIXI Forum. This will be a one day event
that will cover the LIXI AGM, Keynote speakers on the direction of the
industry, focus groups and panel discussions as well as training
workshops. It is complimentary to members and we are hoping its success
will turn it into a two day conference next year. As usual, I am eager
to discuss these points with you so don’t hesitate to contact me and
offer your views.
You know, I don’t feel tired at all. Excited? Yes.
